Gas Exploration in Surat/ Bowen Basins
Origin Energy and QCLNG are developing coal seam gas in the Surat/ Bowen Basins of southern Queensland for domestic and export markets.
The gas exploration projects involve dozens of communities, hundreds of businesses and thousands of people drawn from throughout the state, the rest of Australia and internationally.
The project consists of three key parts:
- Further development of Australia Pacific LNG’s gas fields in the Surat and Bowen Basins in south-west and central Queensland
- Building a 540km buried natural gas pipeline network linking the gas fields to Gladstone
- Constructing a natural gas liquefaction plant on Curtis Island, near Gladstone, where the gas will be converted to LNG for export
Ostwald Bros was awarded the site preparation work packages at Fairview, Monreagh, Bellevue and other sites. The works include:
- bulk earthworks
- earth dam construction
- pipe laying
- pad preparation
- haul roads construction
Contract types vary from project to project and range from fixed price contract, unit price contract to cost plus contract. The projects had tight timeframes with bulk earthworks being carried out over Queensland’s wet season.
