Project Background

MBRL project delivered a new dual track passenger line from Petrie to Kippa-Ring, a grade separated rail junction at Petrie, and quadruplication of the North Coast line between Lawnton and Petrie. This project is recognised as a “region building” initiative and was funded by all three levels of government. DTMR delivered the project for Queensland Rail to operate and maintain.

The project also includes two HV feeder stations, new signalling interlocking technology and stabling facilities for 10 electric trains near Kippa-Ring. Six new stations were constructed at Kallangur, Murrumba Downs, Mango Hill, Mango Hill East, Rothwell, and Kippa-Ring and a new island platform at Petrie.

Rail Corridor Works include:

  • Civil and structures, earthworks, rail bridges and structures, drainage works, retaining walls, noise barriers, and other rail corridor works.
  •  Stations and precincts, platforms, buildings, carparks, landscaping, security, lighting, internal roads and connection to the local road network.
  • Rail systems including track, overhead electrification, signalling, communications, operational systems.

The delivery model for the rail package was a Competive Early Contractor Involvement (dECI) with a Design and Construct (D&C) contract for the delivery of the works.
